The Cornerstone standards

Built for generations

We build with methods meant to last, using today's materials and a refined, timeless finish. These are our standard specifications on every new home, and on every renovation where the existing home allows. Your architect may refine them for the design.

In the home

  • A sealed, efficient home. Each home is built with a continuous air barrier, so it holds its temperature with little energy. Heating, cooling and fresh-air systems are designed for the home as built, so the air inside stays clean and healthy.
  • Radiant heat, room by room.Hydronic radiant heat, with each room on its own zone and thermostat.
  • Lower levels that live like the floors above. Our clients invest a great deal in finished lower levels. We plan drainage, waterproofing and moisture control around the foundation, so those rooms stay dry and are used as fully as the rest of the home.
  • Solid backing where it matters.Blocking framed in for televisions, artwork, mirrors and window treatments, with each location recorded.
  • The right method for every space and material. We draw on a range of building methods, so a wide opening, a curved wall or a heavy stone surface is built for it. Each fine material is installed by the method that suits it, from wide-plank hardwood glued and nailed to the subfloor to stone set on a flat, prepared base.
  • A documented home.Every wall is photographed before it is closed, and the record of what is behind it is yours at handover.

In how each home is built

  • Overseen by a principal.A principal oversees every project from the first meeting to handover, with our team on site each day, and we take on only a few at a time.
  • No markup on trades or materials.Trade and material charges are passed through without markup.
  • Drawings resolved before construction.Details are coordinated with the architect and engineers on paper, so the home is built as drawn.
  • Regular communication.Photographs and decision meetings on a set schedule.
  • Every trade bid and leveled.Several qualified bids for each major trade, compared against the same scope and shared with you.
  • Respect for the neighborhood.Clean, safe sites, work kept to permitted hours, and neighbors kept informed.
